The Forge · 6th Time’s the Charm!

I just got done having the single worst customer service experience that I can recall having. Thank you so much, Bank of America.

Seriously. A(friggen)men

I am the type of person who would rather deal with shitty service than cancel something, because it’s easier to just not cancel. But BofA has to be the worst service I have ever known in my entire life.

I ended my account after a series of issues I had with them. Not a customer service issue so much, but something I considered shady.

Just after we had our son, we were struggling for money a bit. So from time to time, we would run short on money. And like many, I had a lot of automatic charges go through. Sometimes I would run a few bucks short. Not much, but a few bucks.

But BofA would switch around the order in which my charges were processed in order to maximise the damage the shortcoming would cause. Instead of bouncing 3 bucks, the largest payment would process first, then each following charge would bounce, rather than the one.

This happened a few times, and I blew it off as my bad. But then I started watching this. When I knew it was going to happen, I would screenshot the account I pulled up online.

Always, every single time. It would be pushed through in order to best maximise the damage. So rather than a 30 dollar overdraft charge, I was paying 400 dollars. Yeah, 400. One time, close too 800. This tends to cause a snowball effect that is hard to come out of.

After I noticed that it wasn’t just my bad, and they were really up to no good, I closed my account.

I had to go through about 3 people to cancel. The funny thing was you would think was bounced around in the name of retention. On the contrary, not only was I never asked WHY I was closing my account, but there was NO attempt to keep me as a customer at all. Not even a “sorry to see you go” type thing.

Go to Washington Mutual (If available)

Not only were they the nicest people I have ever worked with over the phone, I get all my services for free, and not a single bit of hassle. Ever. I couldn’t be happier to get rid of BofA.

FU Bank of America.
